Solar inverter replacement: check the fault first
A fault message doesn’t always mean the inverter has failed. It can be responding to a problem with the supply, wiring or another part of the installation. We’d want that checked before you spend money on a new unit.
At a Fintry property, missing monitoring data led us to investigate both the connection and the installation. Our repair included a hardwired internet connection, replacement optimisers, a correctly rated DC isolator and setting up the separate battery system’s monitoring. Replacing the main inverter alone would not have addressed that work.
If replacement is needed, the quote should identify the equipment, any cabling or isolator repairs, monitoring and commissioning. Access and battery compatibility affect the scope too. Tell us about any Feed-in Tariff payments before agreeing changes to the system.

When To Call
When to arrange a solar inspection
A sudden change is worth investigating. Keep a note of when it started and any warning message. If there’s smoke or fire, keep away and call 999. Leave damaged electrical equipment alone and don’t keep resetting a breaker that trips.
Generation has dropped for no obvious reason
If generation stays lower than comparable days at the same time of year, or suddenly stops in daylight, send us the readings and any fault message.
The inverter is showing faults or repeated alarms
Inverter errors, shutdowns, or unexplained resets often point to a system problem that should not be ignored.
You can hear birds under the panels
Nesting birds can damage wiring and create debris build-up under the array, especially on older installs without perimeter mesh.
The original installer has disappeared
We regularly inspect and repair systems fitted by other companies, including incomplete or poorly commissioned battery work.

On a Dunblane callout, what started as a suspected metering issue turned out to be a dangerously failed DC isolator. We made the system safe, planned the right remedial work with the client, and upgraded the installation to a modern hybrid setup with battery storage.

How much does solar inverter replacement cost?
We need to identify the fault and check the existing system before quoting. The inverter model, access, cabling, isolators, monitoring and any battery compatibility all affect the work. Ask for the complete installed scope, including testing and commissioning.
